When you or a loved one experience mental health disorders, it can affect your overall health and your relationships with others—your family, friends, colleagues, and those close to you.

At University of Michigan Health, we focus on taking care of the whole person. Since the effects of mental health conditions aren’t limited to the individual who receives the diagnosis, we strive to involve a patient’s loved ones in their treatment plan as well. Our behavioral health care teams offer support for patients and families in every life stage–children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.

Please note that our ambulatory services are mostly evaluation and consultation services. This means we provide you with an assessment and treatment recommendations, then offer options as to where you can receive the recommended care. This is often to resources outside of University of Michigan Health. Care within our Psychiatry outpatient clinics is offered on a case-by-case basis. Factors that affect our ability to offer continued treatment include our clinicians’ overall caseload availability, and also whether or not our clinic model is a good fit for the care you need.

Difficult circumstances may have led you to us, and we realize that you may be concerned about what lies ahead. We want to reassure you that we understand and that we’re here to help you. You don’t have to have all of the answers before asking for help—our team is here to support and guide you.
