Precision Oncology
The University of Michigan Health Precision Oncology Program envisions a future where every patient with advanced cancer across our statewide cancer network receives personalized, data-driven care informed by cutting-edge tumor molecular profiling.
Your Michigan Answer for Precision Oncology Treatments
Michigan Health’s regional cancer network is the only cancer group in the State offering precision oncology with a molecular tumor board to review new treatment options for those with advanced cancer.
As an increasing number of patients receive comprehensive genomic testing, the challenge is shifting beyond ensuring access to advanced molecular diagnostics to how to interpret the results and translate them into clinical care. Although most patients with advanced cancer now undergo tumor genomic profiling to inform treatment decisions, a striking gap remains between potential and real-world benefits from targeted therapy. The molecular tumor board will address the most molecularly complex cases to ensure the highest level of interpretation of genomic results and the correct pairing of the results with available treatment options.
We go beyond treatment, pioneering life-changing education for the patients providers, and patients, through a weekly molecular tumor board between U-M Health Rogel Cancer Center, UM Health - Sparrow Herman Herbert Cancer Center, and UM Health - West Cancer Center. This statewide tumor board will be able to review and offer molecular based testing into individualized therapy recommendations.

Patients will have access to:
- Molecular tumor board
- Precision oncology pharmacist support
- Comprehensive genetic counseling services
- Clinical trial matching
Physicians will have access to:
- Access to expanded genetic testing and sequencing
- Participation in molecular tumor board
- Advanced targeted treatment for their patients
Precision oncology is a representation of both the present and the future of cancer care. Genomic analysis provides deeper understanding into disease pathology, prognosis, identification of predictors of the disease and therapeutic responses, and discovery of the targets for the treatment, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
