Our program emphasizes the importance of family evaluations, and our adult and pediatric specialists work closely together to make sure thoughtful advice is provided to the entire family.​ We also coordinate care between adult and pediatric clinics so that family members can be seen on the same day. 

Since these complex inherited heart conditions require broad expertise, we approach them with multidisciplinary teams, including cardiologists who are experts in genetics as well as clinical cardiology, genetics counselors, electrophysiologists (arrhythmia specialists), cardiothoracic surgeons, and cardiothoracic radiologists.

We offer up-to-date knowledge and treatment recommendations, including:

At Michigan Medicine, we are dedicated to advancing research for cardiomyopathy. We have been leading contributors to numerous clinical trials and have led multiple international collaborative studies on cardiomyopathy that have improved diagnosis and management for these conditions. Current clinical trials include novel medications for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and a phase I trial of gene therapy for arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy due to PKP2 genetic variants. 

Moreover, we are committed to developing new treatments targeting the root genetic causes of cardiomyopathy. Our translational research group is using exciting new approaches that are giving an unprecedented ability to accelerate discovery and testing of new treatment approaches. These approaches bring together a variety of cutting edge approaches, including individualized patient heart cell models, cardiac tissue engineering, gene-editing, and next generation DNA sequencing technologies.
