Cornea & Refractive Surgery Service
The Cornea & Refractive Surgery Service at the U-M Kellogg Eye Center diagnoses and treats people with problems affecting the clear front part of the eye, called the cornea, and its surface layer, the epithelium. This includes changes in the cornea that affect vision, infections, swelling, dry eyes, and injuries.
Our Approach
The Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery Service provides expert care for a wide range of corneal and eye surface problems. Our specialists carefully evaluate and treat these issues to protect and improve your vision.
A key focus of our service is advanced corneal transplantation. We offer cutting-edge procedures such as deep lamellar endokeratoplasty and Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK). DMEK is a modern transplant technique that is especially effective for patients with corneal dystrophies, helping to restore clear vision with less recovery time.
In addition to corneal care, our team performs cataract surgery and a variety of refractive surgeries. We provide options like implantable contact lenses (phakic intraocular lenses), PRK, and LASIK. Our LASIK treatments use the WaveLight EX500 excimer laser, which maps the unique shape of your eye to deliver highly precise and personalized vision correction with a strong focus on safety.
Advanced Testing to Support Your Eye Care
When you get your eyes checked at the U-M Kellogg Eye Center, you may be sent to specialized testing areas like ophthalmic ultrasound, ophthalmic photography, or diagnostic visual electrophysiology. These advanced tests will provide more detailed information than a regular eye exam to help detect problems early, confirm a diagnosis, and guide your treatment plan.
Services
We diagnose, treat, and manage many different eye conditions and diseases in our clinics. The eye conditions we treat are not limited to the list provided here.
