Multi-Disciplinary Microtia Clinic
Multi-Disciplinary Microtia Clinic
At University of Michigan Health, we utilize a multi-disciplinary clinical framework to provide streamlined, longitudinal care for patients with microtia. By integrating several surgical and rehabilitative specialties, our team addresses the physiological, functional, and developmental complexities associated with the condition. This integrated structure ensures that all aspects of a child’s development from neonatal screening to adolescent surgical reconstruction, are managed through a single, cohesive treatment plan.
Our Approach
We meet with your child and discuss reconstructive options early on as we continue to follow their growth and development. This unified care model reduces the burden on families and optimizes clinical outcomes by ensuring that surgical timing and hearing rehabilitation are optimized.
Our comprehensive approach involves the coordinated expertise of the following specialists:
- Pediatric Otolaryngology
- Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Specializes in aesthetic and structural reconstruction of the external ear (pinna)
- Audiology: Performs high-resolution diagnostic hearing assessments
- Speech-Language Pathology: Monitors and treats potential delays in speech and language development
- Medical Genetics: Evaluates for underlying genetic syndromes and provides family counseling
