CoolSculpting®: Body Smoothing & Contouring
CoolSculpting®: Body Smoothing & Contouring
What is CoolSculpting®?
University of Michigan Health offers the revolutionary non-invasive CoolSculpting® procedure for reduction of localized areas of fat. Our board-certified dermatologists are experts at using this advanced technology and will consult with new patients about the treatment plan that will best suit their needs.
Our Approach
At your consultation, our physicians will discuss this state-of-the-art fat removal system and help you determine if CoolSculpting® might be right for you. During the CoolSculpting® procedure, a non-invasive applicator delivers precisely controlled and gentle cooling to the treatment area to specifically target underlying fat, leaving the surface skin intact. When fat cells are exposed to extreme cold, a process of natural removal is triggered, which gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layer over several weeks or months after the procedure. The result is a visible reduction in fatty bulges.
Is CoolSculpting right for me?
Those pockets of stubborn fat go by many names – love handles, belly pooch, or muffin tops. Despite eating a healthy diet and exercising, some localized areas of fat are simply difficult to reduce. The CoolSculpting® procedure is an exciting new way to minimize stubborn areas of fat through a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that typically allows patients to resume work and exercise within 24 hours. There are no needles or surgical incisions involved. The treatment is a clinically-proven and FDA-cleared way to reduce fat in problem areas. CoolSculpting® usually takes about one to two hours during which patients may read, work on a laptop computer, or even nap.
CoolSculpting® is not intended as a weight-reduction program for overweight individuals. The best candidates for the procedure are people near their ideal body weight who eat well and exercise regularly and have pockets of fat that have not responded to a healthy lifestyle.
