Integrated Behavioral Health Program (Pediatric)
Integrated Behavioral Health Program (Pediatric)
The C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital Integrated Behavioral Health program (IBH) is a service that provides brief, evidence-based psychological assessment and therapy to children, adolescents and their families within University of Michigan Health’s pediatric primary care clinics.
Our Approach
This unique clinic is a cooperative effort between General Pediatrics and Pediatric Psychology, enabling pediatricians and psychologists to collaborate in providing a more complete healthcare experience for patients and families. Typically, services are time-limited and focus on specific referral concerns including: behavior management, ADHD, anxiety, depression, learning and behavior at school, toileting, sleep issues, picky eating, tics and habits, family conflicts, and other related concerns. We perform testing for ADHD and screen for developmental concerns (e.g., Autism). This approach promotes timely access to care when developmental concerns arise with minimal interference in children’s school and family routines.
Services
Usually, both the child and parents attend all sessions. Sessions may be scheduled in person or via telehealth. During the first session, providers collaborate with parents and children to identify treatment priorities and develop a course of treatment. The number of additional sessions depends on the nature and severity of the issue, but between 4 and 8 visits is common.
Services are provided by faculty and trainees from the Division of Pediatric Psychology who are specially trained in behavioral strategies to manage common presenting behavioral health concerns in children. Clinical services are delivered and supervised by licensed pediatric psychologists.
Integrated Behavioral Health services are covered under the mental health portion of most insurance plans, including most Medicaid plans. If you are not sure about coverage, contact your insurance carrier or the benefits office at your place of employment and ask about your coverage.
