Supporting Patients & Families Through Knowledge
Navigating the health care system can be overwhelming for patients and families. It can be challenging to sift through complex medical information while processing a new diagnosis, managing a chronic illness, or supporting an ill family member.
To support people in these situations, University of Michigan Health offers two on-site patient and family consumer health libraries:
- Frankel Cardiovascular Center Mardigian Wellness Resource Center
- D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion Patient and Family Library
These libraries have a large collection of books, pamphlets, and other resources related to health and wellness, all presented in patient-friendly language. Key topics include:
- Diseases and conditions
- Treatment methods
- Healthy lifestyles
- Stress reduction
- Disease prevention
As fully functioning libraries, visitors can select resources or check out books to take with them. Pre-paid mailers are provided with materials that are checked out of the libraries to assist with easy returns.
