Floor 5 - D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion

Orientation and General Layout

• Map Context: This guide describes Level 5 of the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Healthcare Pavilion (University of Michigan Health Michigan Medicine), which houses Inpatient Units and the Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU).
• Compass Orientation: According to the directional indicator, North is oriented to the top of this map layout. To align with standard directions while reading this text: North is Up, South is Down, West is Left, and East is Right.
• Corridor Pathways: The floor plan features a light gray network of interconnected walking corridors that loop around a large dark blue central zone and provide access to medium-blue patient areas on the North, South, and East.

West Wing and Central Amenities (West and Center Regions of Map)

• West Area: A large, solid dark blue area extends across the western half of the floor plan.
• Stairs (Far West): A blue square containing a stairs symbol (white zigzag lines) is located on the far western boundary wall of the dark blue zone.
• Stairs (West-Central): Moving East from the far western wall, a second blue square containing a stairs symbol is located in the west-central portion of the dark blue zone.
• Family Amenities Alcove: Near the center of the map, a light gray corridor alcove branches northward. Within this alcove, you will find:
  • Family Laundry located on the left (West) side of the alcove.
  • The Shower Room (marked by a restroom icon) is located directly below the Family Laundry area.
  • An unlabeled restroom icon is located immediately East of the Shower Room icon.
• Family Lounge: The southern base of this central light gray corridor area is designated as the Family Lounge.
• Central Elevator/Service Access: Just East of the Family Laundry alcove, a separate, narrow light gray branch extends northward, terminating at a square icon containing the number 14.

Patient Rooms and Conference Space (North, South, and East Regions of Map)

• South Patient Rooms: Branching off the light gray corridor directly East of the Family Lounge is a horizontal medium-blue zone labeled Patient Rooms running along the southern boundary.
• North Patient Rooms: Branching off the light gray corridor directly North of the central dark blue zone is a parallel horizontal medium-blue zone labeled Patient Rooms.
• East Patient Rooms: Both the northern and southern light gray corridors connect to a long vertical light gray hallway on the right side of the map. Directly East of this vertical hallway is a large vertical medium-blue zone labeled Patient Rooms.
• Conference Room: At the extreme northeastern corner of the map, a room labeled Conference Room branches off to the East from the vertical hallway.
• Stairs (Southeast): At the extreme southeastern corner of the map, a blue square containing a stairs symbol (white zigzag lines) is located at the bottom edge of the vertical Patient Rooms zone.
