Orientation and Layout Structure

  • Compass Orientation: North is toward the top of the map, South is down, West is to the left, and East is to the right.
  • Layout Structure: Floor 5 features a long, continuous horizontal layout with a dedicated vertical elevator branch at both the western and eastern ends.

Western Wing (Surgical SICU)

  • Loop Configuration: At the far West end of the floor is a rectangular loop layout.
  • Northwest Wing: The upper northwestern corner contains Circle 501 (Surgical SICU).
  • Southwest Wing: The lower southwestern corner contains Circle 502 (Surgical SICU).
  • West Elevator & Amenities: Directly South of this loop intersection sits a blue square enclosing the number 2, indicating the UH West Elevators, with a restroom symbol situated immediately North of the elevator box.

Main Patient Room Corridor

  • Double-Corridor Spine: Extending East from the SICU loop is a double-corridor system running horizontally.
  • North Patient Track: The upper corridor track is labeled Circle 503 (Adult Patient Rooms 5402-5455, river side).
  • South Patient Track: The lower corridor track is labeled Circle 504 (Adult Patient Rooms 5103-5155, court side).
  • Central Core Islands: Three central core blocks labeled C, B, and A run down the center of these tracks from West to East.

Eastern Elevator Core

  • Southern Hallway Branch: Towards the eastern end of the main corridor, a hallway branches straight South.
  • Core Amenities: Walking South down this corridor, a restroom symbol is located on the West side of the hall.
  • East Elevator Access: The corridor terminates directly at a blue square enclosing the number 3, indicating the UH East Elevators.

Locate the parking structure elevator.

  • From P2 Parking - Take the P2 elevator to the Floor 1
    • Exit the elevator and enter the Taubman Center
    • Entrance to University Hospital is at the north end of the Taubman Center
    • Follow signs toward University Hospital (UH), Elevator2/Elevator 3
    • Take Elevator 2 or Elevator 3 up to Floor 5*
  • From P3 Parking - Take the P3 elevator to Floor 2
    • Exit the elevator and enter the Taubman Center
    • Follow signs toward University Hospital (UH), Elevator2/Elevator 3
    • Take Elevator 2 or Elevator 3 up to Floor 5*

Detailed directions to services located on Floor 5 of the University Hospital are listed below. Look for signage to assist you in finding your location.

  • Surgical Intensive Care (SICU)
    Continue all the way down the hall until you reach Elevator 2. Take Elevator 2 to Floor 5. When you exit the elevator lobby, take the first hallway to your left. Turn right at the end of this hallway. You will see the overhead sign of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) on the left.
  • Patient Rooms
    Take the Elevator 3 to Floor 5. When you exit the elevator lobby, follow the hallway straight ahead until you reach the patient halls. Signage will indicate room number location.
