About
Dr. McHugh received his B.S. and M.A. degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia in biological sciences and cellular biology, respectively. He received his M.D. from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2002. He completed residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Michigan, serving as Assistant Chief Resident (2004-2005) and Chief Resident (2005-2006). Following residency training, he completed a fellowship in Head and Neck Pathology with Dr. E. Leon Barnes at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
In July 2007, he joined the faculty in the Division of Anatomic Pathology as Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012. He currently serves as Director of Surgical Pathology and is a member-elect of the University of Michigan Medical School Executive Committee. Dr. McHugh is author of over 130 peer-reviewed publications and has contributed chapters to four books. He is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
