Maintenance Shops
Michigan Medicine Facilities Maintenance is responsible for the 24/7 safe operation and maintenance of all the hospital sites on the hill and most out-building infrastructure which includes but is not limited to the following systems: medical gases, HVAC, electrical power, process, domestic, and RO water, pneumatic tube, life safety (doors, fire alarm, fire suppression, power), plumbing, building system controls, and interior/exterior architectural finishes.
The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Shop is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Hospital heating and cooling systems. Preventative maintenance activities provide for the routine inspection, care and lubrication of the HVAC equipment.

The following are some of the services provided by HVAC Shop:
- Replace air conditioning filters
- Perform preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and related equipment
- Control air flows; repair/replace air handlers, exhaust fans and hoods
- Ice machine and refrigerator repair
- Repair building heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
- Maintain and repair evaporative coolers and air conditioning equipment

The Plumbing Shop provides maintenance and repair functions relating to plumbing and piping systems. Domestic Hot/Cold water systems, waste water systems, medical gas systems and components are services and maintained by the Plumbing Shop. Emergency needs are addresses immediately as they become known.

The Electrical Shop is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Hospital electrical systems including high voltage distribution systems, emergency generator systems, building electrical systems, and various types of electrical equipment.

The Afternoon shop provides evening/after-hours (3p-11p), weekend, and holiday (evening, night, weekends, and holiday) maintenance coverage for all hospital and off-site clinic facilities. This group also incorporates the Paint Shop which provides maintenance painting for public, visitor, and patient areas of the hospital complex.

The Architectural Finishes Shop provides maintenance project services for multi-day and multi-trade maintenance tasks. Focus is typical for longer or perpetual duration maintenance programs such as performing weekly in-patient room refreshes, fire stopping, interstitial waterproofing, and weekly Do-it- Now (DIN) services to in-patient care units
