    Dr. Stout, MD, MSCI is a board certified Maternal Fetal Medicine physician scientist and is the Division Chief for Maternal Fetal Medicine at Michigan Medicine. Dr. Stout is an NIH-funded researcher designing and performing large studies including studying bacterial and viral communities of the vagina to better understand the relationship between the maternal microbiome and preterm birth, and cervical imaging techniques to predict preterm birth.

    Research Overview

    Dr. Stout's research focuses on prediction and prevention of preterm birth. Her research includes novel investigations on the vaginal microbiome (bacterial and viral communities in the vagina) as well as cervical imaging techniques to predict the risk for preterm birth. Additionally, Dr. Stout studies cardiovascular disease during pregnancy and the relationship between medical problems during pregnancy and life-long health for women.
