  • About

Dr. McNeish completed his undergraduate training in Chemistry at Tufts University before joining the Vascular Biology Program at Boston Children's Hospital, where five years of research under the mentorship of Dr. Marsha Moses inspired him to pursue a career as a physician-scientist. He earned his medical degree and completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Michigan, followed by a fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine at the University of Vermont. He subsequently joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in the Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Neurology, where he cared for neuromuscular patients and developed expertise in the neuromuscular complications of cancer and its treatment. During this time, he completed clinical research training through the REACH Program and served as a Claude D. Pepper Scholar (2022–2025) through the Pittsburgh Pepper Center, where he gained expertise in cognitive motor control research under the mentorship of Drs. Caterina Rosano and Mark Redfern.

Dr. McNeish has returned to the University of Michigan with a primary appointment in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and secondary appointments in Neurology and the Institute of Gerontology. He is also a member of the Cancer Control and Population Sciences core of the Rogel Cancer Center. As Director of the Human Movement Rehabilitation Laboratory, his research investigates the cognitive and neurological determinants of gait and mobility in older adults and individuals with peripheral neuropathy, with a particular focus on developing interventions that improve both cognitive function and physical performance in cancer survivors with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). Clinically, he sees neuromuscular medicine patients within the Department of Neurology, with expertise in neuropathy, CIDP, and the broader neuromuscular complications of cancer and its treatment.

    Areas of Practice

Patients with neuromuscular disease with neuropathy but a longstanding interest in the neuromuscular complications of cancer and its treatment including CIPN.
