    Dr. Schumacher completed pediatric cardiology fellowship training at the University of Michigan. He has additional formal training in pediatric heart failure/transplantation and pediatric cardiac critical care. Dr. Schumacher the medical director of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Program at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. In his work, Dr. Schumacher provides care to children and adults with cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease) and severe structural heart disease.

    Dr. Schumacher completed a master’s degree in clinical research design and biostatistics in 2013. He has a significant interest in improving the lives of children with heart disease through clinical research. He currently serves as the associate director of M-CHORD (Michigan Congenital Heart Outcomes Research and Discovery clinical research unit) and the director of the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4) analytic center.

    Dr. Schumacher is committed to educating new cardiologists and oversees the research program for the pediatric cardiology fellowship. He received the Dennis Crowley Teaching Award for most outstanding teacher in pediatric cardiology as awarded by the fellows in 2018 and considers it to be his most outstanding achievement.

    When not at work, Dr. Schumacher most enjoys spending time with his family. He likes to both play and watch sports (his children's and the University of Michigan). He also enjoys cooking.
