    Dr. Shelley Hershner, M.D., is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology, Division of Sleep Medicine at the University of Michigan and the Director of the Collegiate Sleep Disorders Clinic. After earning her medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio, she completed a neurology residency and a sleep medicine fellowship at the University of Michigan. Dr. Hershner's research focuses on the intersection of academics and sleep issues among college students, as well as sleep disorders in transgender individuals. She has extensive experience managing narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia and has authored numerous scientific papers and book chapters in her field.

    Research Overview

    Dr. Hershner is interested in disordered sleep in college students and how sleep impacts academic performance. She has an innovative Collegiate Sleep Disorders Clinic offers an expedited evaluation of students.

    She has extensive experience in treating sleep disorders in young adults. College students often are very sleepy, which may be due to various causes; this sleepiness can adversely impact academic performance. Treating these underlying issues can improve grades and quality of life.
