Transplantation (Pediatric)
Organ transplantation is a life-saving surgery to replace a child’s failing or damaged organ.
Your Michigan Answer for Pediatric Transplantation
Hearing that your child needs a new organ can bring up some complicated feelings. At C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, we’re here to help guide you and your loved ones through this challenging process.
The University of Michigan Transplant Center is the largest and most experienced transplant center in Michigan, and our patient survival rates rank among the world's best. We’re well equipped to perform the full range of transplantation procedures, including blood and marrow, heart, kidney, and liver transplants. Our multidisciplinary team begins by reviewing your child’s health history in detail and ensuring the donor organ is the right fit. After surgery, we stay by your side with a comprehensive recovery plan and careful monitoring to support their recovery.
We also understand that your child’s healing journey doesn’t stop once you walk out our doors. That’s why we created Camp Michitanki in 2003 to provide a memorable camping experience for children aged 7-15 who have had an organ transplant at any hospital. Campers spend 6 days each summer participating in a variety of activities and have the opportunity to develop life skills in a fun, residential camp setting.
No matter where you are in your child’s transplant journey, know that you’re not alone—at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, we’re here every step of the way.
