About
Dr. Erin G. Clifton is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and provides mental health care to patients in the Transplant Center at the University of Michigan. Dr. Clifton received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan and doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Case Western Reserve University. She completed her clinical internship at the Durham VA Medical Center and post-doctoral health psychology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital where she received specialized training in transplant and clinical health psychology. Currently, she serves as a member of the kidney, liver, lung and heart transplant teams and works collaboratively with team members to promote coping with medical stressors, improve mental health symptoms, and address transplant–related concerns, such as adherence to medical regimens. She is experienced in a wide range of cognitive behavioral therapies and emphasizes evidence-based treatment and collaborative treatment planning.

Dr. Clifton's areas of research interest include: adherence factors in solid organ transplantation, process improvement and psychological intervention in transplant candidates, emotional engagement during psychotherapeutic intervention, and treatment for trauma/PTSD.
