Nursing Student Clinical Placement Requests

Students are responsible for securing their own preceptors. We do not assign preceptors.

• Students are strongly encouraged to seek opportunities to complete their clinical rotations outside of their home unit.
• If you request to complete your rotation on the unit you currently work on, you will need to receive approval from your direct Clinical Nursing Director and your school instructor.

We follow the University of Michigan Academic Calendar for term start and end dates. Refer to our Calendar page to ensure your request aligns with our term deadlines.

All clinical placement requests must be submitted through ACEMAPP, the Alliance for Clinical Experience Matching and Placement Program, powered by the Michigan Health Council. If your school is not yet a member of ACEMAPP, they must register in order to submit student information and request placements.

A separate Placement Request Form and ACEMAPP entry are required for:

• Each term, even if continuing with the same preceptor
• Each preceptor, if more than one is involved

Before initiating a Placement Request, ensure the following:

• Have a confirmed preceptor and written documentation of their agreement (e.g., a signed school preceptor agreement or confirmation email).
• You have checked with your school about the status of an Affiliation Agreement with University of Michigan Health | Michigan Medicine.
• You understand that requests involving new affiliation agreements or program addendums have earlier request deadlines and must follow additional steps listed on the Affiliation Agreement page.
• You have reviewed the Calendar Page and are aware of request deadlines for your intended term.
