Chief Nursing Informatics Officer

Develops clinical system and technology strategies in collaboration with other senior nursing, clinical informatics, IT, and operational leaders. Responsible for ensuring quality improvement efforts promote informatics research, align with regulatory bodies and guidelines, and include evidence based practice that supports positive clinical outcomes. Carleen has oversight of the Nursing Informatics and Nursing Information Services teams.

Shannon's key areas of focus include improving nursing orders, enhancing clinical communication through technical solutions, implementing Epic mobile application functionality to streamlining workflows, and increasing patient engagement during their inpatient stay with MyChart Bedside.

Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration to reduce nursing documentation burden and optimize workflows, enabling more time for direct patient care and improved health outcomes. Leads and coordinates initiatives to advance integration of Clinical Practice Model (CPM) content across disciplines. Oversees nursing downtime communication, workflows, and processes in partnership with clinical teams and Health Information Technology Services (HITS).

Collaborates with clinical and information technology teams to identify system issues, analyze workflows, and implement IT solutions that enhance the quality and efficiency of transplant clinical and quality processes. Partners with stakeholders to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration between Transplant Perioperative, Transplant Inpatient, and Transplant Ambulatory ensuring seamless workflow integration and technical solutions are aligned with transplant regulatory standards.

Applies intraoperative clinical experience and knowledge to serve as the bridge between the Perioperative staff and HITS Optime teams to meet regulatory standards, institutional and department goals, and reduce documentation burden. Concentrates on enhancing Perioperative Nursing workflows, end-user proficiency, and adherence to organizational policies and procedures to improve patient care delivery. Collaborates with the Perioperative Informatics and HITS Optime teams for interoperability and supports the Office of Clinical Affairs regarding medical device and human cells, tissues, or cellular or tissue-based products (HCT/Ps) tracking.

Rob Wonnacott, MSN, RN, CCRN-K

Manager of Nursing Information Systems

Manages the administrative and operational activities of the NIS department. He leads many major programs for Nursing such as the call light system, physiological monitors, secondary notification system, pagers, phones, performance management, scheduling and payroll system, etc. He represents the department on hospital committees and other activities ensuring collaboration with hospital-wide groups for systematic and programmatic developments.

Focus on quality and patient safety when implementing and adopting technology in the nursing practice environments and the impact on clinical and organizational outcomes is a key focus. In his practice area, he examines technologies that are necessary to support effective communication, efficient and safe care delivery, as well as those used for administrative processes.

Serves as Nursing Lead for Cornerstone Performance and Nursing Webmaster at University of Michigan Health. Supports all areas of nursing—from leadership to bedside—by designing, building, and managing internal and external websites and essential resources, including policies, procedures, skills, web-based data collection tools, and news for UMH nurses and a worldwide audience. Also manages nursing informatics projects and web administration for the nursing community.

Facilitates training, quality and safety while supporting implementations across the organization. Other responsibilities include oversight of all cardiac monitors, pulse oximetry devices, SANS, pager notifications, escalation standards, phones and other communication devices. Liaison to Nursing Services providing data interpretation via technology to improve outcomes, generate efficiencies and increase overall satisfaction. Participates on a wide variety of hospital committees, ensuring safety standards are met while introducing new technology.

Serves as a subject matter expert in the use of utilized databases (ANSOS), data visualizations and related staff training.
