Nursing Student Clinical Placement
We are committed to providing meaningful clinical learning experiences for nursing students as they prepare to become RNs or APRNs.
WELCOME
The Main Campus Michigan Medicine Clinical Placement team coordinates and processes student nurse placements for the U-M Health Academic Medical Center. This includes both undergraduate and graduate experiences in direct and indirect patient care settings across the following locations:
- University Hospital
- Frankel Cardiovascular Center
- D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion
- Kellogg Eye Center
- Rogel Cancer Center
- C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital
- Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital
- Outpatient health centers and clinics
Our team also ensures that all compliance requirements are completed before placements are approved.
PLEASE NOTE:
Our team does not:
- Process placement requests for regional U-M Health partners or affiliate locations
- Coordinate observer or shadowing opportunities or arrange hours for professional nursing certifications. These activities should be arranged directly with the hosting department. All observer or shadowing experiences must comply with the Michigan Medicine Visiting Observer Policy, (04-06-061).
- Assist students with securing preceptors. For more information, please refer to the Student Requests page.
Affiliation Agreements
All non-University of Michigan Schools of Nursing must have a valid Affiliation Agreement (Master Contract) and a corresponding All-In-One Program Addendum on file with University of Michigan Health | Michigan Medicine before starting clinicals. Placement requests that will involve the creation of a new affiliation agreement or the addition of a program addendum have earlier request deadlines to allow ample processing time. Please refer to our AFFILIATION AGREEMENTS page for full details and timeline requirements to begin the process.
Clinical Placement Guidelines
To ensure fairness and consistency:
- All placement requests must be submitted by the School of Nursing through ACEMAPP, a secure platform provided by the Michigan Health Council.
- All students and instructors, including University of Michigan Health | Michigan Medicine employees, must enroll in ACEMAPP to complete onboarding and compliance requirements.
- Students and instructors should not contact University of Michigan Health | Michigan Medicine staff directly regarding placements to ensure a fair and consistent process.
- Placement requests must adhere to all deadlines outlined in our Affiliation Agreement, ACEMAPP submission schedule, Secure Portal System access, and compliance requirements. See our TIMELINES & DEADLINES PAGE for detailed dates.
