    Dr. Veenstra earned her medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and completed Internal Medicine internship and residency at the University of Michigan, where she also served as Chief Medical Resident. She completed her Medical Oncology fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania, during which time she also earned a Masters in Health Policy Research. She joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2013.

    Dr. Veenstra’s research program focuses on the financial impacts of cancer diagnosis and treatment on patients and their families, the role of family in receipt of optimal cancer care, and issues facing cancer survivors. She currently holds a K07 Award from the National Cancer Institute to study the role of an engaged spouse or significant other in receipt of high quality surveillance care among survivors of colorectal cancer.

    Dr. Veenstra’s research program addresses the quality of cancer care, optimal surveillance care for cancer survivors, the financial impacts of cancer diagnosis and treatment, and the role of spouses, significant others, and family members in cancer care.
