About
James B. Froehlich, MD, MPH, is the Melvin A. Lester, MD Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, Director of Vascular Medicine, Director of MCORRP (Michigan Clinical Outcomes Research and Reporting Program), and Director of Anticoagulation at the University of Michigan Medical School. He received his undergraduate degree in political philosophy from Dartmouth College in 1982, and his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School (now the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College), in 1986. He completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine at the New England Deaconess Hospital, Harvard Medical School, under Dr. Robert C. Moellering.
Dr. Froehlich completed a fellowship in cardiology and vascular medicine at the University of Michigan from 1993-1996. After completing a Masters Degree in Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health (while serving as the first Director of Vascular Medicine at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard), he joined the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, with a joint appointment in vascular surgery and cardiology, before returning to Michigan and his current position. Dr. Froehlich has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Vascular Surgery, the Cardiosource Review Journal, the Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis, and as an ad hoc reviewer for JAMA, NEJM, Vascular Medicine and Circulation. He is Past-President of the Society for Vascular Medicine, and has been a member of the AHA/ACC Preoperative Guidelines Committee and of the AHA Scientific Sessions Program Committee. He has published over 180 articles and 11 book chapters. He is an ardent supporter of the Boston Red Sox, the University Musical Society, and served on the board of directors of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.

MCORRP creates and manages data registries which allow measurement of clinical variables, including outcomes for quality improvement as well as to promote evidence-based care models. Examples include: North American Registry for Fibromuscular Dysplasia; International Registry of Acute Aortic Dissection; Michigan Anticoagulation Quality Improvement Initiative; Cardiac Sarcoidosis Registry; Pulmonary Embolism Response Team Registry; My Heart Your Heart-program for repurposing used pacemakers in the third world.
