Monica Jean Janke, MD

Monica Janke, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Michigan Medical School. She specializes in the comprehensive medical and surgical care of patients with gynecologic cancers.

Dr. Janke received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She returned to the University of Michigan for residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, where she served as Administrative Chief Resident, and subsequently completed fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Janke is passionate about providing compassionate, patient-centered cancer care. She has a particular interest in communication between patients and their health care teams, helping patients understand their treatment options and ensuring that care reflects each patient’s individual goals and values. Dr. Janke is also dedicated to medical education and teaches communication skills to medical students, residents, fellows, and other health care professionals.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Janke enjoys traveling, hiking and spending time outdoors, going to concerts, enjoying good food, and spending time with her partner, family, friends, and dog.

Dr. Janke specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancers, including ovarian, uterine (endometrial), cervical, vulvar, and vaginal cancers, as well as gynecologic precancers and masses. She provides comprehensive medical and surgical treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic surgery, and complex open pelvic surgery.

Dr. Janke’s research focuses on improving patient-centered care for people with gynecologic cancer, with particular interests in optimizing serious illness communication, symptom management, and the integration of palliative care. Her research aims to develop practical strategies that align treatment with patients’ goals and values and integrate supportive care throughout the cancer journey. Her work also spans health care delivery, medical education, quality improvement, and physician workforce and training.
