About
Frank M. Davis, MD is a faculty member in the Department of Surgery Section of Vascular Surgery, treating patients at the University of Michigan Health System and at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with highest honors from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He then went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Michigan and graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha status. During his medical studies he pursued a Sarnoff Cardiovascular Foundation Fellowship at the University of Kentucky under the guidance of Dr. Alan Daugherty investigating the pathological mechanisms of abdominal aortic aneurysm formation. Following medical school, he returned to the University of Michigan to complete his Integrated Vascular Surgery training. During his surgical training he spent two years as a National Institutes of Health Ruth L. Kirschstein Postdoctoral Fellow investigating the impact of epigenetic modifications to the immune system in diabetic wound healing and aortic aneurysm develop. Dr. Davis’s clinical interest and expertise is the surgical and endovascular management of aortic aneurysms, aorto-Iliac occlusive disease, cerebral vascular disease, and peripheral arterial disease.
Clinical Specialization
Dr. Davis’s clinical specialization is the surgical and endovascular management of aortic aneurysms, aorto-Iliac occlusive disease, cerebral vascular disease, and peripheral arterial disease.
He is trained in complex open and endovascular work in all vascular beds. He performs a variety of procedures including TCAR, CEA, AAA repair, hemodialysis access, TEVAR, EVAR, pEVAR, FEVAR, Aortic Bypass Procedures, Mesenteric Revascularization, and Peripheral Angioplasty/Stenting/Open Bypass. He became a Registered Physician in Vascular Ultrasound Interpretation in 2019.

Research Overview
Dr. Davis has a long-standing interest in vascular inflammation, epigenetic modification and abdominal aortic aneurysmal (AAA) disease. His laboratory focuses on defining the role of the immune system in the development and progression of aortic aneurysms. The long-term goal is to uncover mechanisms responsible for aortic dilation and rupture in order to identify new targets for therapeutic intervention. Since his arrival at the University of Michigan, he has focused efforts in both the laboratory and clinical setting utilizing various mouse models of AAA to characterize pathological alterations at the cellular and molecular level. Importantly, this work was carried out in conjunction with clinical studies to ensure bench to bedside translation. The ultimate goal is to translate a better understanding of the intersection of innate immunity and aortic dilation to new pharmacologic targets and treatment modalities.
Dr. Davis has received support for his research from multiple national institutions including: the National Institutes of Health, the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society, the Association for Academic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.
