    Michael Huvard, MD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Departments of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. He earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy at Northwestern University, where he graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He then completed a post-baccalaureate research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. He earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Following medical school, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center. During residency he was awarded the 2018 Walter R. Parker Resident Teaching Award. He subsequently completed a 2-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at the University of Colorado Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Eye Center. He is now on faculty at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center, where he is dedicated to providing outstanding patient care and training the next generation of ophthalmologists. The focus of his research is better defining the clinical outcomes of diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous, such as retinal detachments and posterior segment infectious and inflammatory disorders, and improving medical and surgical education for medical trainees.

    Areas of Practice

    Diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous, including diagnosis and treatment of retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and other macular diseases, retinal vascular disease, ocular trauma, posterior segment inflammatory or infectious disorders, and surgical management of complex posterior segment pathology.
