About
Dr. Brown is a faculty member in the Department of Surgery, Section of Vascular Surgery at the University of Michigan, treating patients at the University of Michigan Health System and the Ann Arbor Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. He graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Biochemistry in 2012. He then attended the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, graduating with his Medical Degree in 2016. He traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan for his residency training in General Surgery between 2016-2023 here at the University of Michigan, during which he completed a two year research fellowship at the Center for Healthcare Outcomes and Policy, within the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation, and simultaneously obtained a Master of Health and Healthcare Research from the Univeristy of Michigan Rackham Graduate School. He completed his fellowship training in Vascular Surgery, also here at the University of Michigan, in 2025 prior to joining the faculty. Clinically, Dr. Brown’s interests span the full spectrum of vascular disease, including aortic and aneurysmal disease, mesenteric and cerebrovascular occlusive disease, peripheral arterial disease, and hemodialysis access. He is an active teacher, journal reviewer, and member of multiple professional societies and institutional committees.

Research Overview
His research interests include surgical quality improvement, payment policy, and understanding the effects of perverse incentives on surgical care delivery and outcomes. He has a particular focus on cardiovascular diseases and training the next generation of physician-scientists.
