    Dr. Sheetz is an assistant professor of surgery and a faculty member in the Section of Transplant Surgery. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan where he also completed his general surgery residency. He went on to complete his transplant surgery fellowship at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Transplant Surgeons.

    Clinical Specialization:

    Dr. Sheetz’s clinical interests include liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant. He also performs laparoscopic donor nephrectomy for living donor kidney transplants. He has a special interest in normothermic machine perfusion in liver transplant.

    Research Overview

    Dr. Sheetz's research focuses on the adoption and effectiveness of new surgical technologies and procedures, policy evaluation, and collaborative quality improvement in transplantation. He has an interest in natural experiments and applying techniques from econometrics to understand which interventions help patients the most. His research group is currently studying the long-term effectiveness of robotic surgery for common procedures and the rapid adoption of normothermic machine perfusion in liver transplantation.
