About
Dr. Surtees was born in Cape Town, South Africa and spent her formative childhood years in Tasmania, Australia. When her family moved to Ohio, she had never before seen snow, still called the trunk of a car "the boot", and was thoroughly impressed by the existence of chipmunks.
For her undergraduate studies, Dr. Surtees attended Washington University in St. Louis, where she majored in biology and Spanish and competed on the cross country and track teams. She returned to Ohio for medical school and then completed her pediatric residency and pediatric neurology training here at the University of Michigan. She briefly left Ann Arbor to complete a pediatric neurocritical care fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. She was ultimately drawn back to the University of Michigan, where she is thrilled to work with wonderful patients and colleagues.
Dr. Surtees is an outdoor enthusiast and an avid runner and cyclist (road, gravel, and cyclocross). She also dabbles in kombucha brewing, ukulele playing, and juggling.
