Facilities Planning Engineering
The Engineering Section of Facilities Planning & Development (FPD) provides mechanical and electrical engineering support for the design and operation of University of Michigan Health facilities. This includes engineering aspects associated with the renovation of our existing facilities, the design of new facilities, as well as assisting in ensuring ongoing compliant operation of our health system facilities.
Engineering staff at FPD manages the capital planning and design for renewal and expansion of the infrastructure supporting our UMH facilities. We also develop design guidelines and establish best practice in the design, construction and ongoing compliance of the mechanical and electrical infrastructure systems supporting our facilities.
The Engineering Section maintains oversight and expertise in all facility infrastructure systems, include the heating, cooling and ventilation (HVAC) systems, domestic and specialty plumbing systems, medical gas and alarm systems, building management system (BMS), interior and exterior lighting, normal and emergency electrical power systems, nurse call, security systems and other like essential infrastructure systems.
