Ashley Megan Bartell, MD

Ashley Hesson, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also appointed in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine (Department of Internal Medicine). She is the Director of Research for the Cardio-Obstetrics program and Co-Director of the Frankel Cardiovascular Center Michigan Biological Research Initiative on Sex Differences in Cardiovascular Disease.

Dr. Hesson earned her MD/PhD at Michigan State University. Her PhD is in Linguistics, with a focus on quantitative Sociolinguistics as applied to patient-physician interaction. She completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan, where she then stayed to complete fellowships in Maternal Fetal Medicine and Cardio-Obstetrics. During fellowship, she held an NIH T32 and obtained additional training in translational approaches to pregnancy-mediated cardiovascular disease. She has numerous publications in social, clinical, and translational science.
