  • About

Dr. Monica Colvin is a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Cardiovascular Division. She received her medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed her general cardiology fellowship at the University of Miami and Advanced Heart Failure Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. She completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Research at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health and served as the medical director of heart transplant at the University of Minnesota. She is now the medical director and section head of the Adult Heart Transplant Program at U-M Health. Her scholarly work focuses on improving post-transplant outcomes, and detecting and treating cardiac allograft vasculopathy. She is the clinical specialist for heart transplant for the national Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients where she participates in analyses and policy development involving heart allocation.

Dr. Colvin's clinical focus is Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support. She has been clinically involved in heart transplant and LVADs for greater than 20 years and has participated in clinical trials involving heart failure, transplant, and mechanical circulatory support. She has co-authored multiple national guidelines in this area. She brings this experience and expertise to the University of Michigan Health and MyMichigan Health where she cares for heart transplant recipients, patients with end stage heart failure, and patients with LVADs. Her approach to care involves education and shared decision making to allow patients to actively participate in the process and determine the management strategy that’s appropriate for them.

April 3, 2025 - "I would recommend Dr Colvin to anyone who needed [...] doctor. She is very professional, very knowledgeable, and explains things in a manner I can understand. She has always been kind enough to take the time to answer my extra questions and she has no problem reiterating things we've gone over once or twice. She's fantastic. [...]"
