    • If doctors haven’t been able to find the cause of your vision problem, our Neuro-Ophthalmology Service team at the U-M Kellogg Eye Center may be able to help. Our experts see many patients and know how to recognize symptoms and make the right diagnosis.

    Our Approach

    The specialists here begin with a full eye exam to check how well you see, how your pupils react, your eye color, side vision and how your eyes move. We also use special tests to view and measure your retina and optic nerve through computerized visual field testing and optical coherence tomography.

    Treatment depends on your condition. You may need medicine, Botox injections to relax eye muscles or surgery. Many of these procedures are done without an overnight hospital stay.

    Advanced Testing to Support Your Eye Care

    When you get your eyes checked at the U-M Kellogg Eye Center, you may be sent to specialized testing areas like ophthalmic ultrasound, ophthalmic photography, or diagnostic visual electrophysiology. These advanced tests will provide more detailed information than a regular eye exam to help detect problems early, confirm a diagnosis, and guide your treatment plan.

    We diagnose, treat, and manage many different eye conditions and diseases in our clinics. The eye conditions we treat are not limited to the list provided here.  

    • Reduced vision
    • Blind spots
    • Double vision
    • Abnormalities of the pupils
    • Droopy eyelids
    • Abnormal alignment of the eyes
    • Abnormal eye movements
    • Twitching or spasm around the eyes
    • Vision loss from stroke or tumor
    • Optic neuritis – inflammation of the optic nerve
    • Thyroid eye disease
    • Optic atrophy – the loss of some or most of the nerve fibers in the optic nerve
    • Ischemic optic neuropathy - optic neuropathy from obstruction of blood vessels
    • Ocular myasthenia gravis – an autoimmune disorder that causes weakened eye muscles
    • Focal dystonias – movement disorders that affect the eyes and face, including hemifacial spasm and blepharospasm
    • Alzheimer’s disease with vision problems
