University of Michigan Health and Trinity Health are committed to providing the right care, at the right time, in the right place through shared clinical goals and ensuring patients have access to specialty care options near their local communities.

Our organizations have come together to improve access to specialty care for Michiganders in a number of unique collaborations. Most recently, we partnered to expand pediatric specialty care, through a new pediatric multispecialty clinic at Trinity Health Oakland in Pontiac which launched in November 2022.

Through our new formal collaboration, Trinity Health Oakland Hospital and University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital are improving access to pediatric specialty care, keeping services close to home for families in the tri-county area.

This collaboration significantly enhances the patient experience and lead to more coordinated care for pediatric patients from around the region.

Both organizations are committed to providing the right care, at the right time, in the right place. Will my current Trinity Health Oakland Hospital pediatric providers change?

There are no changes to the existing Trinity Health Oakland Hospital medical staff planned related to the new joint venture. In the future, the goal is to make additional U-M pediatric specialty care options available locally in Pontiac.

Does the joint operating agreement impact my insurance coverage?

The new affiliation does not impact Trinity Health Oakland Hospital’s relationships with insurers. Trinity Health Oakland Hospital will continue to contract with payers on behalf of the pediatric specialty clinics offered through the joint operating agreement. Will I receive a bill from Trinity Health Oakland Hospital or C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital?

Inpatient and outpatient services provided through Trinity Health Oakland Hospital and University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital under the joint operating agreement will be billed for by Trinity Health.

How will University of Michigan Health and Trinity Health Oakland Hospital share electronic medical records and documentation? Which patient portal should I use?

Most care you receive through providers at Trinity Health Oakland Hospital will be managed through Trinity Health’s electronic medical records systems.  

U-M Health providers can access medical records for patients whose care they are involved in seamlessly through the provider portal.

As a donor to Trinity Health Oakland Hospital, will my donation stay in Pontiac?

Yes. Trinity Health Oakland Hospital remains an independent hospital with a focus on providing care for patients in the tri-county area. U-M Health’s goal in collaborating with Trinity Health Oakland Hospital is to expand access to advanced pediatric specialty care in these communities.
