Great Lakes Health Connect

Great Lakes Health Connect is a Michigan statewide Health Information Exchange that allows subscribers to connect to Michigan Medicine as well as other hospitals and health systems in the state.

As of July 2015, GLHC has networked:

  • 117 hospital facilities
  • 2,200+ connected participants and providers
  • 400 interfaced offices
  • Information from allmember sites

How does Michigan Medicine work with GLHC?

Michigan Medicine is one of the participating Health Systems with GLHC and uploads completed Lab, radiology and pathology results, admission, discharge, transfer and transcribed and signed documents in real time. All of these documents are view-only on GLHC’s Virtual Integrated Patient Record (VIPR).  VIPR delivers a community-wide patient record across the Great Lakes Health Connect’s network. These records can be accessed through a secure web viewer or from an organization’s electronic medical record system.

What else can GLHC provide?

GLHC participates with several large health systems statewide (i.e. Beaumont Health, Henry Ford Health System, Sparrow, McLaren, Spectrum) to provide view-only results and documents that are mapped to unique patients within the master person index. As an external provider, you can see records for your patients from several health systems, not only from Michigan Medicine. Some of these health systems also participate in the e-referral tool with GLHC.

GLHC services include:

  • Results and documents from several large Michigan Health Systems
  • Meaningful Use Feeds to the State of Michigan
    • Direct Messages
    • Care Coordination / e-referral tool
    • Full GLHC EHR Integration

Is there a fee for using GLHC?

There is no subscription cost to external providers for GLHC. Enhanced services and full EHR integration may require an investment with your own EMR provider to have results and letters delivered directly into your EMR. GLHC may provide subsidies to help with those costs.
