    Kara Mizokami-Stout, MD, MSc is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine with an appointment in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes. She attended medical school and internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado. She then completed her endocrinology fellowship at the University of Michigan. She joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2017 and has a dual appointment at the Ann Arbor VA.

    Dr. Mizokami-Stout’s practice focuses on type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and general endocrinology. She also conducts health services research in the field of diabetes.

    Type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, diabetes technologies including insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, and automated insulin delivery devices.

    Poor blood sugar control in adolescence increases the risk of painful future complications for people with type 1 diabetes, research suggests. Participants with the greatest increase in HbA1c levels from childhood to adolescence not only retained higher blood sugar levels in adulthood, but they also had a greater risk for neuropathy.
