    James R. Holmes, MD is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Michigan specializing in disorders of the Foot and Ankle. Dr. Holmes expanded his appointment to full-time faculty member in 2009, with the section of Foot & Ankle Surgery. A 1991 graduate of the Michigan Orthopaedic Residency program, Dr. Holmes completed a fellowship in Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at the University of Washington. Currently, he is the Associate Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Orthopaedic Service Chief through the Office of Clinical Affairs, and Clinical Domain Oversight Officer in the ambulatory care portion of Michigan Medicine. He has served on the board of directors of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and continues to serve as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic surgery. Holmes recently stepped down as Chief of the Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Service after over 10 years of service in that role and remains clinically active.

    Dr. Holmes is an active member in multiple societies including the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
