Research Overview
Dr. Im’s interest in the presentation and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders (such as autism spectrum disorder [ASD] and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD]), mood disorders, inpatient psychiatry, and provider health has led him to publish work in these realms, including articles on the treatment of aggression in adults with ASD, treatment of manic and psychotic symptoms in the setting of intolerance to multiple mood-stabilizing and antipsychotic medications, the importance of balancing safety and healing in inpatient psychiatric settings, and the presentation and management of ADHD in medical learners and physicians. As a forensically trained psychiatrist, he is also interested in the interface of mental illness and the criminal justice system, and has published work on how best to evaluate criminal defendants with mental health issues for their competence to represent themselves.
