Ben Daniel Ayotte, MD

Board-certified Family Medicine physician with hospital-focused practice committed to delivering comprehensive, evidence-based, and equitable medical care. In addition to patient care, I actively contribute to medical education, research, and systems-based quality improvement efforts; lead and support dynamic curriculum and resource development, and provide structured mentorship for medical students and residents. My additional roles as UM Physician Advisor, Deputy Editor for ACP Hospitalist, and Peer Reviewer for Journal of Hospital Medicine further broaden my perspectives on modern clinical practice. My recognitions including University of Michigan Road Scholar distinction (2023), Top Hospitalist honors (2023-2025), and over forty Making a Difference Awards reflect my commitment to lifelong learning and patient-centered care.

My teaching centers on inpatient clinical reasoning, evidence-based care, and high-quality clinical documentation, with an emphasis on integrating these domains into systems-based practice. I create structured, psychologically safe learning environments that promote active participation, deliberate practice, and progressive autonomy. My educational work demonstrates sustained impact across undergraduate and graduate medical education, including consistently high learner evaluations, longitudinal mentorship, and development of practical tools that improve both learning efficiency and clinical care. My academic focus lies at the intersection of clinical reasoning, documentation quality, and patient-centered communication, with the goal of preparing trainees to deliver high-value, system-aware care in complex inpatient environments.
