    Dr. Rakesh Patel is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Spine Surgery, with a cross appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery at University of Michigan Health. Dr. Patel completed his undergraduate training at the University of California in Los Angeles where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He received his medical degree upon graduation from the New York University School of Medicine in 2000. Dr. Patel did his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU-Hospital for Joint Diseases, where he was awarded an Aventis Orthopedic Scholarship NYU-HJD Senior Research Award. After completion of his training in New York, Dr. Patel went on to finish a one-year Spine Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin and recently completed the Executive MBA program here at the University of Michigan.

    November 18, 2025 - "After my appointment, I had a question about the ct scan. Dr Patel came back in the room and brought the scan up and explained more detail about what the hardware showed. That was very informative!"

He also answered all my questions regarding any impact to my organs without surgery. Time spent with Dr. Patel was extremely helpful and Informative. He took the necessary time to thoroughly answer all my questions. If surgery Is indeed necessary in my future, I would want Dr. Patel, without hesitation, to perform the surgery."
