Rafina Khateeb MD, MBA, SFHM has been a faculty hospitalist at Michigan Medicine since 2008. She currently serves as the Director of Clinical Strategy for the Division of Hospital Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Damascus University (Syria), and her Masters of Business Administration from University of Michigan, 2017. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and practices as a Palliative Care consultant in the inpatient setting.
Dr. Khateeb is passionate around improving hospital operations and patient experience. She sits on several hospital wide committees, such as UH/CVC Patient Flow Governance, and is the Vice Chair for UH/CVC Operations Committee. She received the Department of Internal Medicine Faculty Impact Award in 2017 for her leadership in creating the AOD (admitting officer of the day) program, which facilitates efficient patient transfers from other hospitals.
Dr. Khateeb has great interest in improving patient experience through attention to symptom control and a holistic approach to care. Her current research is around integrating Palliative Care into Hospital Medicine, in an effort to facilitate earlier Palliative Care consultation for patients with unmet needs. She is a strong advocate of interdisciplinary care and is committed to her continued work in aligning care teams with nursing units with a goal of fostering teamwork and patient centered care.
Dr. Khateeb is fluent in Arabic. She enjoys playing indoor soccer, running, and wakeboarding.
