    Dr. Patel is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her psychiatry residency training at Henry Ford Health, followed by her Consultation-Liaison (CL) Psychiatry fellowship training at the University of Michigan. Her work centers on the psychiatric care of patients with serious medical illness, with strong interests in transplant psychiatry and addiction in medical settings. Her clinical practice includes transplant evaluation and peri-transplant mental health, the pain–addiction interface, and collaborative care across high-acuity medical services. She also has experience in psycho-oncology and supporting patients navigating cancer treatment.

    Her academic interests span the medical-psychiatric interface, including psychopharmacology, transplant psychiatry, addiction, and psycho-oncology. She has contributed to a range of scholarly projects across these areas, reflecting her commitment to advancing understanding of complex presentations at the intersection of medicine and psychiatry. Additionally, she was a recipient of the 2024-2025 Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (ACLP) Webb Fellowship, a national program that supports early-career clinicians developing as leaders in CL Psychiatry.

    Dr. Patel is an active member of the ACLP, serving on both the Resident Education Subcommittee and the Guidelines and Evidence Based Medicine Subcommittee. A dedicated educator, she has delivered numerous high-yield lectures and teaching sessions for trainees and interdisciplinary teams, known for translating complex concepts into clear, practical learning that elevates the educational experience in CL psychiatry. Her teaching has also been recognized by trainees, including repeat selection for Teacher of the Year.
