    Dr. Pilewskie is a faculty member in the Department of Surgery and director of the Breast Care Center at Michigan Medicine. She received her B.S. in biology from the University of Michigan, a medical degree from The Ohio State University, completed her general surgical residency training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, finished her training with a fellowship in surgical breast oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in NYC and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

    During her training, Dr. Pilewskie has been the recipient of the Breast Cancer Achievement Award from the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium and was two-time recipient of the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award. Following her clinical fellowship, she joined the faculty at MSKCC where she was an Associate Attending on the Breast Service in the Department of Surgery and Director of Strategic Planning and Research for RISE, the MSKCC high-risk breast cancer program for 9 years prior to returning to Ann Arbor.

    Dr. Pilewskie's clinical practice is devoted to the management of breast cancer and surgical breast diseases. She performs all aspects of surgery for breast cancer and high-risk breast lesions, including excisional biopsies, lumpectomy, mastectomy, nipple sparing mastectomy, lymph node biopsy, and axillary lymph node dissection. In addition, she is actively involved in risk management and counsel’s women on risk reducing surgery. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys running or hiking on the local trails and cheering for Michigan athletics with her son.

    Research Overview

    Dr. Pilewskie has established an active role in clinical research, which has focused broadly on breast cancer risk and safely minimizing surgery for breast cancer patients. Her work as included accurate risk assessment for high-risk populations, optimal imaging strategies for high-risk women, studying novel risk-reduction therapies, and investigating the safety of minimizing axillary lymph node surgery.
