About
Bahaa Malaeb, MD, FACS, joined the University of Michigan, Department of Urology in August 2012 after completing a fellowship in Genitourinary Trauma and Reconstructive Urology at the University of Washington, Seattle. Prior to that, he finished his residency in urology (2011) and a research fellowship in urologic oncology (2006) at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, Dr. Malaeb completed his undergrad at the American University of Beirut (1999) and obtained his MD from the same institution (2003).
Dr. Malaeb's clinical focus and practice include evaluating and managing genitourinary trauma in the immediate and the delayed setting. His reconstructive practice spans both upper and lower urinary tracts. The typical surgeries he performs include urethroplasties for stricture disease, penile reconstruction, prosthetic surgery for Peyronie's disease, erectile dysfunction, and surgeries for management of male incontinence. He manages urologic trauma in the acute setting as well as delayed presentation. Dr. Malaeb also is involved in the gender program and collaborates with plastic surgery and GYN in gender reassignment procedures. His research interests mirror his clinical practice and involve urinary incontinence in men, trends and outcomes, urologic prosthetics, and urethral stricture disease.
Dr. Malaeb is very excited to be part of the University of Michigan, Department of Urology, as he gets the opportunity to work at one of the nation's leading programs. The opportunities for research and collaboration are unmatched, and the patient population is diverse and challenging. He enjoys working with the residents and is committed to teaching in a clinic and operating room setting. On a personal level, he is getting to enjoy the fantastic setting of a beautiful college town with easy access to a vast range of activities, from fine dining and a great art scene to fun outdoor activities.
