Diabetes Devices: Getting Started
Diabetes Devices: Getting Started
This page will help you get started sharing your blood sugar data with your University of Michigan Health care team. Whether you use a glucometer, continuous glucose monitor (CGM), or insulin pump, we'll walk you through every step to get connected to the right platform and start sharing safely and conveniently.
Once you choose a platform, you can find instructions for your specific device on the linked pages under "Upload Your Data" below.
Choose a Platform for Your Device Type
Glooko: U-M Health Preferred Platform
Glooko is the preferred platform at Michigan Medicine and allows your diabetes data to be directly connected to your medical record. If you are using only a blood glucose meter, Glooko is the ONLY platform you need.
The first step is selecting the right platform for your specific devices. If you use two or more devices to check your blood glucose—for example, both a CGM and an insulin pump—you should try to select a platform that supports both devices so all your information will be in one place and easy to review.
Not sure which platform to use? The information below will help you match your device to the right platform.
If you use a continuous glucose monitor to check your blood glucose, use the table below to find the compatible data platform. Reports for connected insulin pumps that use CGM data to automatically make dose adjustments will also include CGM data—see the insulin pump table for those devices.
| CGM Device | Recommended Platform |
| Dexcom G7 | Glooko or Dexcom Clarity |
| Abbott Freestyle Libre | Glooko or LibreView |
If you use an insulin pump to manage your blood glucose, your device may have a preferred data platform where you can view detailed insulin delivery information. Connected insulin pumps that use CGM data to make automatic dose adjustments—such as Tandem pumps with Control IQ, Medtronic 780G, Omnipod 5, and iLet—will also include CGM data in their reports.
| Insulin Pump | Recommended Platform |
| Tandem | Glooko or Tandem Source |
| Medtronic | CareLink |
| iLet (Beta Bionics) | Beta Bionics Reports |
| Omnipod | Glooko |
| Twiist | Tidepool |
Please note: Reports for pumps with automated insulin delivery (AID) systems will include CGM data in addition to pump delivery data, giving your care team a complete picture of your glucose management.
