The resident will receive a faculty appointment as Adjunct Clinical Instructor at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Teaching responsibilities and assignments make change on a yearly basis depending on the needs of the College, but may include courses structured in a team-based learning format, patient care laboratory work, and/or didactic teaching related to critical care pharmacy. The resident will have the opportunity to help precept students on clinical rotations. A teaching certificate program is available through the College of Pharmacy.  

Through the research and writing requirements of the program, the resident has the potential to produce at least two manuscripts suitable for peer-reviewed publication by the end of the residency. The resident will participate in the development and implementation of a research study protocol that is relevant to critical care. Experience in protocol writing, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation and publication will be provided. The resident will also participate in the Residency Research Series.  

A second project suitable for publication, including either a review article or secondary research project, will also be completed by the resident. Further development of writing and presentation skills is fostered through the writing of research papers and review articles, providing on-site professional verbal presentations and written communications to healthcare professionals, and presentations to Pharmacy and other healthcare professionals at local, regional, and national meetings. 

Opportunity to become involved on a professional committee (local, state or national).  

The resident will complete 4 major topic presentations and several journal clubs to the critical care and cardiology preceptor groups. Other major topic presentations will be done in collaboration with the PGY2 Cardiology and Emergency Medicine pharmacy residents.  

• Up to 15 weekends per year: Mix of pharmacokinetics, nutrition support and anticoagulation (2/3 of weekends) and ED staffing (1/3 of weekends)

Minimum qualifications include graduation from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and successful completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy residency.
