Craft Glue Suncatchers
School Glue Suncatchers
Catch the sunlight, one colorful drop of glue at a time!
What You’ll Need:
- White and clear school glue (such as Elmer's)
- Food coloring or liquid watercolors
- Plastic lid, plastic plate or sheet protector (we used the lid off of a Pringles chip can!)
- Toothpicks
- Glitter, sequins or small beads (optional)
- String
- Hole punch
Instructions:
- Place the plastic lid, plastic plate or sheet protector on your work surface. The glue needs a non-porous surface so it can peel off later.
Squeeze white school glue onto the plastic surface to make a shape, such as a heart or a star, or simply fill the circle if using a circular plastic lid like we did. Make the outline fairly thick and closed so the colored glue stays inside.
Fill in the design with clear glue making sure the entire shape is filled in and decently thick. Drop little droplets of food coloring throughout the surface of the glue and use the toothpicks to swirl them in, make rainbow section, swirl colors together, etc. Add glitter or sequins, if using.
Leave the suncatcher flat to dry completely. Drying time is usually 24-48 hours depending on thickness and humidity. Thicker glue will dry more slowly, but it’s less likely to tear! The glue should feel firm and no longer sticky.
- Carefully peel the dried glue design off the plastic surface. If the suncatcher sticks too much, put it in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes before peeling.
- Punch a small hole near the top, tie your string as a hanger and hang it in a sunny window.
