    Dr. Hunter is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Acute Care Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan.

    Dr. Hunter received a B.A. in History at Davidson College in Davidson, NC. She then went on to Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC where she completed a combined MD/MA in Bioethics. Dr. Hunter completed her general surgery residency at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. While there she spent time at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, Kenya doing clinical research in burn injury and completed a MS in Clinical and Translational Research at Brown University School of Public Health. Dr. Hunter completed a combined Burn/Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA before joining the faculty at Michigan Medicine.

    Clinical Specialization:

    My clinical focus is expertise in the care of burn and trauma patients in the acute setting as well as burn scar management. My practice also includes emergency general surgery and care for critically ill surgical patients in the ICU.

    Research Overview

    My research focuses on improving care for burn and trauma patients in both the United States and globally. I seek to improve understanding of the impact of burn injury in resource- limited settings through sound epidemiological studies. In addition, I plan to use implementation science to study the efficacy and application of burn care in the acute and rehabilitation setting
