About
Dr. Alison Snyder-Warwick is Chief of the Section of Plastic Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Snyder-Warwick graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors with a B.A. in Biology from Knox College. She completed her medical degree at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She also completed surgical residency training and a research fellowship in Developmental Biology at Washington University. She then travelled to Toronto, Canada for specialized training in pediatric plastic surgery and pediatric microsurgery at the Hospital for Sick Children. Before joining the faculty at Michigan, she spent over 12 years of clinical practice as a faculty member at Washington University where she founded and directed the Facial Nerve Institute, served as the Residency Program Director, and co-directed the Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Institute.
Dr. Snyder-Warwick’s main clinical focuses are reconstruction for facial nerve disorders and corneal neurotization, pediatric plastic surgery, treatment of facial clefts in children, reconstruction of brachial plexus birth injuries, and pediatric microsurgical procedures. Her clinical interests have led to pioneering basic science research investigations involving the terminal Schwann cell, a unique glial cell present at the nerve-muscle interface.
Dr. Snyder-Warwick is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, the Plastic Surgery Research Council (PSRC), the American Society for Peripheral Nerve (ASPN), the American Association of Pediatric Plastic Surgeons, the Sir Charles Bell Society, and the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. She has been elected as an officer for many national and international organizations and currently serves as Chair for the PSRC, treasurer for the Sir Charles Bell Society, and historian for ASPN. In addition, she serves as an oral examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery and serves on multiple national committees.Expertise
