Michigan Medicine’s eClinic is designed to make care more accessible to patients. Our goal is to relieve the burden that our patients face, especially patients who live far away from the Medical Center. We are committed to making it easier for our diverse patient population to receive care.
The surgery eClinic is offered for more routine cases that will allow patients to receive follow up care through a video or telephone call instead of having to visit the clinic. This form of follow up care is a safe alternative that allows patients to get the appropriate attention after surgery while minimizing the time, expense, and inconvenience of travel.
Current eClinic Surgery Services
We are currently offering eClinics for less complicated procedures in acute care surgery and emergency surgical services. These procedures include laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and hernia repair.
Patients who undergo uncomplicated procedures may be eligible for eClinic services. Uncomplicated procedures include cases that have demonstrated low complication rates in the past and generally require shorter hospitalizations. When it’s time for you to be discharged, your surgeon will be able to determine if you are eligible for eClinic follow up. - Easy access and convenience. You can set up an appointment that works best for your schedule.
- Care received in the comfort of your own home. There’s no need to brave adverse weather or get stuck in traffic. Instead, you can receive care in your own familiar surroundings. This is a big plus when you’ve just made a journey to the hospital and don’t want to venture back so soon.
- No waiting time. Instead of lingering in a reception area full of other patients, you can receive care on demand without having to spend time waiting for your provider.
- Customized care. Because the video or phone call will be scheduled in advance, you can be assured that your health care provider will be briefed on your case and will be ready to discuss any issues you may be experiencing.
